Free. The app is notarized by Apple (before software is distributed, Apple checks it for malicious content).
The iPhone app is currently in testing, and its public release is in preparation. The Mac app can’t be used on its own.

To check that the file you downloaded is the same, run shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/Tonari-0.8-8.dmg in Terminal and compare the result with the SHA-256 above.
How to install
What you can do on your Mac now
- Open the file you downloaded (.dmg). If your browser asks whether to allow the download, click Allow.
- In the window that appears, drag Tonari to the Applications folder on the right.
- Open Tonari from the Applications folder. The first time you open it, macOS may ask whether you’re sure you want to open it. Click Open.
- Under “Allow Screen Recording”, click “Allow”, then turn on Tonari in System Settings. Then click “Reopen Tonari”. (If System Settings offers to quit and reopen Tonari, you can use that instead.)
- When macOS asks whether Tonari can find devices on your local network, click Allow.
Once the iPhone app is available
- Click “Add iPhone (Show QR Code)” in Tonari in the menu bar, and scan the QR code that appears with “Scan QR Code” in Tonari on your iPhone. If you’re asked about Local Network and camera access along the way, tap Allow.
Tonari lives in the menu bar. It doesn’t appear in the Dock.
iPhone app
The iPhone app is currently in testing on TestFlight, and its public release is in preparation (we’re not accepting invitation requests yet). It runs on iOS 26 or later. When it’s released, we’ll announce it on this page and in the Release Notes.
Updates
When a new version is out, Tonari lets you know in its menu. It checks once a day and always asks before installing. You can also check right away from Settings in the menu. Release Notes
