What’s new in the Mac app.

0.8

  • Pairing has been redesigned. The QR code works only while “Add iPhone” is open. iPhones you paired before need to scan the QR code once more with the new iPhone app.
  • You can now unpair iPhones one at a time in Settings > Paired iPhones. When a new iPhone is paired, the menu lets you know.
  • If a firewall is blocking connections to Tonari, the menu now tells you.
  • Tonari is now available in English (when your Mac’s language is English).
  • The large QR code window now opens next to the menu instead of behind it.
  • Other small usability improvements.

  • You can now hide the picture on your iPhone with “Pause Display” in the Mac menu. Your windows stay where they are, and “Resume Display” brings the picture back.
  • The QR code from “Add iPhone” can now be shown in a large window. It closes when an iPhone connects. You can also open it with “Show QR Code” in the welcome window.
  • You can now also choose from Tonari on your iPhone whether your iPhone is to the left or the right of your Mac. Requires the new iPhone app.
  • The first time you connect, Tonari also shows how to move windows to your iPhone at the top right of your Mac’s screen.
  • Added “Share Tonari” to Settings.
  • Other small usability improvements.

  • Your iPhone now pairs by scanning a QR code shown on your Mac. Only paired iPhones can connect, and only from the same network. Video and control traffic is encrypted. Requires the new iPhone app.
  • When your Mac’s display turns off, the picture on your iPhone is hidden too. In Settings, you can also choose to keep your Mac’s display on while it’s showing on your iPhone.
  • When you connect, the latest picture is now sent even if nothing on the screen is changing.
  • Fixed an issue where the video could stay frozen while the resolution was switching or after the display slept.
  • Fixed an issue where the status still said Off after you started accepting connections. Also fixed an issue where reopening could leave the old Tonari running.
  • If Tonari can’t start, it now shows the cause and what to do next. When a new version is available, the menu bar icon shows a mark.
  • Other fixes for issues found in review.

  • Added “Report a Problem” to Settings. It collects logs and crash reports into a single file that you can attach to an email to us. Nothing is sent automatically.
  • If Tonari quits unexpectedly, the menu now lets you know so you can send a report.

  • While waiting for an iPhone, the menu now always shows this Mac’s address, with a label such as Wi-Fi or wired LAN and a copy button.
  • You can now choose the text size, the quality, and which side your iPhone is on with pictures on the iPhone Display page. A description of your choice is shown too.
  • Fixed an issue where the connection could be shown as a cable even when you were connected over Wi-Fi.

  • Redesigned the menu. See the connected iPhone, latency, resolution, and data rate at a glance.
  • Added “Disconnect”. When you disconnect from the Mac, the display is removed right away and the iPhone doesn’t reconnect on its own.
  • You can now change the display size (Larger, Standard, More Space) from the Mac, too. The change also applies to the picture on your iPhone.
  • You can now choose the quality (Data Saver, Standard, High). You can also change it from your iPhone.
  • You can now choose whether your iPhone is placed to the left or the right of your Mac.

  • The first public release.
  • Lives in the menu bar and creates the screen next to your Mac only while an iPhone is connected.
  • When your iPhone disconnects, the display stays for a set time, and your window layout is kept when you reconnect.
